1. Annaprashana/Onnoprashon/Annaprashana Vidhi/Annaprasan/Anna-Prasanam is an ancestral Hindu samskara(ritual) which is performed when food other than milk is given to the newborn.
2. It is the baby’s transition from liquid to solid foods. Annaprashana literally means ‘’food feeding’’ or ‘’first feeding of food’’.
3. It is an important ceremony of grain initiation in modern India which is arranged in consultation with a priest who gives an auspicious date to conduct the Puja for the baby. It is usually done in six to eight months time of the baby’s age. Even month for boy and odd month for a girl.
4. A symbolic feeding of a few spoons of rice pudding(kheer or payash) with the help of a silver spoon is given to the baby. Silver metal is considered the most positive for the body.
